In a world where food is increasingly viewed as a mere commodity, the upcoming Terra Madre events aim to reaffirm its vital role as a catalyst for connection, culture, and biodiversity. In the second half of 2025, the spirit of Terra Madre will journey to Belgium, the United States, Norway, and the Philippines, fostering community ties and advocating for sustainable food practices.
Historically, food has transcended nutrition, serving as a bridge that unites people, nurtures diverse ecosystems, and enriches cultural heritage through shared experiences. However, modern market dynamics often prioritize uniformity over diversity, leading to environmental degradation and isolating those who cultivate our food. To combat this troubling trend, Slow Food is gearing up to host four significant events aimed at reclaiming the intrinsic value of food as a unifying force.
The inaugural Terra Madre gathering took place in Turin, Italy, in 2004, bringing together over 5,000 farmers, fishers, and producers from 130 countries. This landmark event established a firm foundation for a global community dedicated to preserving food and biodiversity.
